I have been an Audubon of Florida volunteer Eagle Watcher for 5 years. I think every nest and every eagle has a story. I created this blog so that Audubon Chapters could share eagle news and interesting observations.
Tina, every nest and sighting seem exciting to me. Here is some important legislation involving bald eagles that everyone might be interested in.
Holding Airports Harmless for Impacts to Imperiled Wildlife HB 1065 Rep. Scott Plakon (R-Longwood)/SB 1864 Sen. Carey Baker (R- Eustis) This legislation proposes that airports permitted to disturb wildlife in an attempt to protect air traffic from wildlife collision hazards should not be held responsible if threatened or endangered wildlife like Bald Eagles are harmed or killed in the process.
Broward County's bald eagle population is 1 pair! Here is a chance to name them! VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE EAGLE NAME AT THIS LINK http://rosyfinch.com/PollPage.html
Other counties with less than five pair include Washington, Union, Suwanee, Nassau, Liberty, Jefferson, Jackson, Baker, Columbia, Dade, De Soto, Escambia, and Gadseden.
I live in Canton, ME, USA along the Androscoggin River. The river runs behind my home. The other night I spotted a bald eagle perched on a branch in my yard. The branch hangs low over the river. The eagle sat for a little over an hour. We had some minor thunderstorms and the eagle sat through the stormy weather. I am really hoping he comes back. I would imagine he may have been waiting out the stormy weather or waiting for the perfect fish for supper. Anyway, I just hope he comes back again. What a beauty and what a precious blessing.
I can't wait to see all the stories about eagles!!
